With great fortune, our flight was on time, and with little turbulence and other disturbance, we arrived in Baltimore. Our great adventure had come to a close, yet it did not end like a typical vacation.
Usually, arriving home brings an abrupt rebirth of all that lay waiting over the time away: chores, anxieties, stress, business, responsibility. This time, it was different. The grass still needed cutting; units still required planning; responsibilities still required attending. Yet they did not own me in the way they seemed to before I left: their urgency not as dire. There is a much larger world, more grander, powerful, and of greater import than anything I have my hands in. I felt the glory of this earth and privilege to be living here stronger than ever before, and this was already exerting itself in me.
Like all vacations, I returned renewed; but unlike any other before in my life, this renewal is holistic, existential. My sight has been infused with newfound depth; my ears has been tuned to a new pitch; my mind has been expanded with experience - rejuvenated and sticky.
I could not be more thankful for all this trip afforded this entire family and cannot wait to embark on our next family camping adventure!
